For recipients

Ask for help, with dignity.

Everyone faces a hard month sometimes. Swipe a Need lets you share what you’re facing in your own words, and decide what stays private.

Swipe a Need is not open to the public yet. The app isn’t in the app stores, no requests are live, and payments and payouts are not enabled. This page describes how the service is designed to work. Where a safeguard depends on a provider or approval we don’t have yet, we say so.

From request to payout

  1. Create a request

Choose the kind of need, add a title, the amount and the due date, and, if you like, your story. You can have one active request at a time.

  2. Add a document

You may be asked for a supporting document, such as a bill statement. It is kept private.

  3. Review before publishing

Our team will review your request before it appears in the app, and may ask for more information.

  4. Verify to receive funds

You can submit before verifying your identity, but no payout will be made until identity, compliance and payout checks are complete. Identity verification is planned and isn’t available yet.

You decide what’s shared

A public request shows only the title, your story, your first name, your city and region if you choose, an approved photo, and progress. Your legal name, address, date of birth and documents are collected separately and are never shown publicly.

Donors are anonymous to you by default.

What to expect about money

  • Keep What You Raise. What is raised goes to your request even if the goal isn’t reached.
  • No mandatory platform fee. Applicable card processing and payout costs are borne by the recipient, so they can reduce the amount paid out. Exact amounts aren’t set yet.
  • Payouts are planned to go to your verified bank account after the funding deadline and a processing period of at least 24 hours, once your checks are complete and two members of our team have approved the payout.
  • Each request has a funding limit, and larger goals get an extra review.

Payments and payouts are not enabled yet. See how money moves.

Everyday needs without a bill

Groceries, fuel, baby supplies and household items often don’t come with a bill. These are planned to be shown without a supporting document, in your own words, and are not independently verified. That isn’t switched on yet: for now, every request needs a supporting document.
