Swipe a Need LLC

Where things stand today. Swipe a Need is preparing for its first App Store release. The app is not yet available in the app stores, and payments and payouts are not enabled. Identity verification, document malware scanning and email and push notifications are built but not yet switched on. This policy describes both what we do today and what we will do once those features are on. Anything marked Not active yet is not being collected or done today.

1. Who we are and how to contact us

Swipe a Need LLC (“Swipe a Need”, “we”, “us”) operates the Swipe a Need mobile app and the website at swipeaneed.com (together, the “Service”). Swipe a Need is a crowdfunding platform for individuals. It is not a charity or a nonprofit, and gifts are not tax-deductible.

The Service is for people in the United States who are 18 or older. For privacy questions or to make a request, email support@swipeaneed.com.

The app asks for access to your camera or photo library only when you choose to add a picture of a bill. We do not collect precise location, your contacts or advertising identifiers.

3. Profiles, requests, stories and images you submit

Recipients decide what to write in a request. Please do not include bank or card numbers, other people’s private details, or anything you do not want public. Requests are reviewed by our team before publication, and we may decline, ask for changes to, or remove a request. A photo is shown publicly only after it is approved.

4. Documented bills and self-reported everyday needs

A documented bill comes with a supporting document, such as a bill statement. Documents are uploaded to private storage and are viewable only by authorized staff. We plan to scan uploaded documents for malware before staff open them (Not active yet). A clean scan does not show that a document is genuine.

Some everyday needs, such as groceries or fuel, may be shown as self-reported: described in the recipient’s own words and not independently verified. This is planned but not yet switched on; today every request needs a supporting document. We do not verify that any expense is genuine or accurate.

5. Identity verification

Before a recipient’s first payout, we plan to verify their identity through a third-party identity provider, Didit. This is Not active yet: it has not been switched on. Identity is not required to browse, register, submit or publish a request. Identity verification confirms who a person is. It does not prove that a bill or a need is genuine.

  • What the provider collects. Identity verification typically involves images of a government ID and a live selfie compared with the ID photo. This can include biometric information, which is sensitive. The provider collects and processes it under its own terms and privacy notice.
  • Your agreement. Before a new verification starts, we ask you to agree to the identity check and record that agreement.
  • What we keep. Our systems are designed to keep only the outcome of the check (for example verified, in review or declined), reason codes, a reference to the verification session and timestamps. They are not designed to store your ID images, selfie or biometric templates.
  • Staff review. If a result needs review, authorized staff see the status and reason codes and may ask you for more information.

6. Recipient bank account and payout information

To receive a payout, a recipient completes onboarding with our payment provider, Stripe, which collects identity and bank account information for itself and under its own privacy notice. We keep a reference to the payout destination, a label, the last four digits, its status and payout records. We do not keep full bank account numbers. Not active yet: payouts are not enabled.

7. Contributions, transaction records and optional tips

When payments are enabled, card payments will be processed by Stripe. Card details go to Stripe and are not stored by us. We keep records of each gift (amount, request, date, status, any refund or dispute), an optional tip, and receipts. A tip is optional, starts at $0, and goes to Swipe a Need, not to the recipient. We keep financial and transaction records as needed for accounting, tax, legal, fraud-prevention and dispute purposes. Not active yet: payments are not enabled.

8. Payment processors and other service providers

We use service providers that process personal information on our behalf. We name those we use or plan to use and say whether each is active. We do not describe a provider as active before it is.

Stripe’s handling of information is described in its privacy policy. Nothing here states or implies that Stripe or any provider has approved, certified or endorsed Swipe a Need.

9. Device information, analytics, cookies and similar technologies

  • This website does not set cookies, run advertising or analytics scripts, or collect information through forms. Our hosting provider processes standard request data, such as network address, browser type and pages requested, to deliver and secure the site.
  • The app does not include third-party analytics or advertising tools and does not track you across other companies’ apps or websites. It stores your sign-in session and settings on your device, and, if you give without an account, a secret that lets you reopen your receipt. If notifications are switched on, it stores a push-notification token.
  • We use a one-way scrambled value derived from your network address to limit repeated sign-in and recovery attempts. We do not store the address for that purpose.

10. How we use and disclose information

We use information to: provide and secure the Service; create and manage accounts; review, publish and moderate requests; process gifts, tips, refunds and payouts when enabled; verify recipients; prevent fraud, abuse and duplicate requests; send service messages; respond to support requests and reports; keep required records; and comply with law.

We disclose information to:

  • Service providers in section 8, only as needed to provide their services to us.
  • Other people, as you choose. If you choose to be named to a recipient, or to appear on a leaderboard or public profile, that information is shown as described in section 11.
  • Authorities and others when the law requires it, to enforce our terms, to investigate fraud or abuse, or to protect people’s safety.
  • A successor, if we are involved in a merger, financing or sale of assets, subject to this policy.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

11. What is public

  • A published request shows its title, story, goal, due date and progress, the recipient’s first name, their city and region if they choose, and an approved photo.
  • A recipient’s legal name, address, date of birth, documents and verification details are never shown publicly.
  • Donors are anonymous to recipients by default. If you choose to be named to a recipient, that recipient can see your name.
  • Public profiles, leaderboard appearances, amounts and social links are off until you turn them on. If you turn them on, they are public, and you can turn them off again in Settings & Privacy.
  • Progress on a request counts gifts that have settled; it does not list who gave.

12. Security

We use safeguards designed to protect personal information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), private storage for uploaded documents, limits on which staff can access sensitive records, multi-factor authentication for staff, and logging of access to sensitive documents. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you believe your account has been accessed without permission, contact us right away.

13. Retention and account deletion

We keep personal information for as long as needed to provide the Service and for legal, tax, accounting, fraud-prevention and dispute-resolution purposes. Because the Service has not yet launched, we have not fixed specific retention periods for each category, and we will update this policy when we do.

Account deletion. Deletion is started in the app: Settings → Delete account. You confirm with a recent sign-in and by typing DELETE, which starts a 14-day period during which you can cancel. Deletion can’t start while a request has gifts, or a payment or payout is in progress. It is designed to remove your profile, saved requests and drafts. Records we must keep for financial and legal reasons are retained, and where such records still refer to your account, the account may be disabled and anonymised rather than erased. The app is not yet available and this flow is still being tested.

14. Your privacy choices and rights

  • Settings. You control public profiles, rankings, amounts, social links and notifications in the app.
  • Your rights. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what personal information we hold, to access and correct it, to delete it, to receive a copy, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information or of targeted advertising. We do not sell or share personal information for advertising.
  • How to make a request. Email support@swipeaneed.com. We may need to verify your identity first, and we will respond within the time the law requires. You can use an authorized agent. If we decline a request, you may ask us to reconsider by replying to our message.
  • Limits. We may keep information we are required or permitted to keep, such as financial records, and we can’t delete information that has been lawfully disclosed.
  • We will not treat you differently for exercising your rights.

15. Children’s privacy

The Service is for people who are 18 or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you think a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

16. International processing

The Service is offered only in the United States. We and our providers may process and store information in the United States and in other countries where those providers operate. If you use the Service from outside the United States, you understand your information will be handled as described in this policy.

17. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the Service changes, for example when payments, identity verification or notifications are switched on. We will post the updated policy here with a new effective date, and for material changes we will give additional notice as the law requires.
